The CCD worked with Libyan lawyers, judges, reformers, and civil society leaders in a series of programs from 2011-2015. Many of the programs were in partnership with Lawyers for Justice in Libya, a UK-based NGO. Others were sponsored by the British government and the British Council. The focus of the programs was on encouraging a wide range of stakeholders to explore the types of constitutional arrangements that might help Libya to make a successful transition to democracy. One of the most exciting programs was “Destoori” (“My Constitution”), in which we trained a team of men and women who traveled around the country offering information and discussion about constitutions to the people of Libya and collecting data about what the people wanted from their constitution.
